I’ve left the classic must-see sights for the latter part of this guide, but first, let me show you some places and experiences you probably won’t find in every Belgrade guide. From me, your local insider guide, this are the best things to do in Belgrade.

Belgrade is one of those cities that surprises you – often in ways other travel guides don’t show. It has its iconic attractions, sure, but the real magic is in the hidden streets, quirky museums, new food spots and experiences you can’t plan for in a typical itinerary.

1. Novi Beograd Architecture Walk

Novi Beograd might feel like a concrete jungle at first glance, but it’s a paradise for lovers of urban design. Walking here is like flipping through a living architecture magazine – brutalist blocks, modernist towers and socialist-era monuments tell the story of a city that grew fast and ambitiously in the 20th century.

Look up at the Genex Tower (“Western Gate”), SIV building (Palace of Serbia) and Museum of Contemporary art. You can enter all these places. Even if you’re not a fan of brutalism, these structures have character – especially during sunset, when the long shadows stretch across the plazas.

2. Zemun Museum & Walking Tour + Gardoš Tower

Zemun feels like stepping into another city. Pastel houses, cobblestone streets, riverside cafés and a calm pace make it a refreshing escape from central Belgrade.

  • Zemun Museum – Entry 400 RSD. Learn about Zemun’s Austro-Hungarian history and local culture.

3. Šimanovci Car Museum

Just outside Belgrade, the private Car Museum Šimanovci is a quirky gem. With 18 vintage cars – mostly classic BMWs dating from 1957 – it’s intimate, charming, and perfect for car enthusiasts or anyone who enjoys unusual museums.

Check the working hours. Ask the curator for stories behind the cars – some are hand-restored masterpieces.

4. Belgrade Chinatown at Belmax Center

If you love Chinese food, this spot is a must. Belmax Center transforms after 17:00 with bustling restaurants, and live music starts from 20:00. It’s not fancy, but it’s authentic, vibrant and full of flavor.

If you use public transport – buses 611 and 711 take you right there.

5. One-Day Trip to Subotica

I am big fan of road-trips so I need to suggest at least one in this article, no matter I’m writing about the best things to do in Belgrade. Subotica is a colorful, Art Nouveau city near the Hungarian border – almost like stepping into a different world. The fast train makes it easy for a day trip:

Recently opened, this market is Belgrade’s answer to TimeOut Market Lisbon or Budapest Central Market Hall. With street food, cocktails, DJs and weekend vibes, it’s a must for foodies.

Go after 19:00 – lively but not overly crowded.

7. Belgrade Free Walking Tour

8. Party Bus

PartyBus – Every Friday from Beton Hala, 21:00–23:00, tickets 2000 RSD (3 drinks included). A moving nightclub with DJs, dancing and city views. Wear comfortable shoes – the bus moves!

9. Museum of Yugoslavia & Tito’s Mausoleum

10. Ada Ciganlija – Belgrade’s “Sea”

Ada isn’t just for summer. In winter, you can go skiing at the small ski center, ride bikes or just enjoy riverside walks. Summer or winter, Ada offers activities for all tastes.

The path around the lake is 7km, so you can take a really nice walk. Weekdays are quieter, giving you more space to explore.
